Daniel MEKOBE SONE is the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Cameroon. He was appointed to this post in 2014 following the holding of the Higher Judicial Council.
Born on 8 August 1946 at Ngol Manjo (Littoral Region), this super scale, First Group Legal Officer who hold a First Degree in law was intergrated into the corps of Magistracy on the 27 June 1980.
He started his prominent career as a Presiding Magistrate at the Court of First Instance Foumban where he served for a year before pursuing his career in 1981 as interim State Counsel in Bafang. He later on assumed the full function of State Counsel in 1984. Chief Justice MEKOBE SONE then moved to Yaounde in 1989 after serving as President of the Court of First Instance Sangmelima.
He later served as President of the Court of First Instance Yaounde and in 1990 as the President of the High Court Mfoundi. Thereafter, he was called upon to serve the interest of the nation in a different capacity. From that moment he cumulated this function with that of President of the Provincial Litigation Commission of Yaounde. In the same vein, he was appointed Alternate Assessor at the State Security Court in 1991.
Before Daniel MEKOBE SONE was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Cameroon, he served as the President of the Littoral Court of Appeal, Director of Legislation at the Ministry of Justice and as Judge at the Supreme Court in 1998, 2010 and 2012 respectively.
His rich and diverse experience and mastery of the judicial system of Cameroon led him in 2017, at the occasion of the Solemn launching of the judicial year to insist on the need for Cameroon’s laws to be adapted to the “changing times and social realities”. He is thus an established professional who is determined to reform the judicial scenery of Cameroon, so that it meets the aspirations and expectations of the Cameroonian citizen.
Daniel MEKOBE SONE is married and is a father of five. He is sometimes described as a discrete and rigourous man and is known to be a devoted Christian.
